Iron Jawed Angels

Synopsis:

The suffragist movement has gone stagnant. It's the perfect time for Alice Paul to swoop in with her new ideas and light of Fire under the older, more traditional women. She does just that. With her new radical ideas, she forces President Wilson to give women the rights they deserve. And she pays the price for her action when she and her fellow suffragettes are unjustly arrested and sent to prison, where they are tortured for their defiance. The women do not give in and eventually achieve their goals.

Opinion:

I'm not even going to try to give an objective criticism. I love this movie.  In a world where feminism is so divisive and confusing, it's wonderful to take a look back on what it used to be. This is a story of determination and courage that can rival any tale of wartime heroism. I believe that in our modern age of convenience, we often forget what our mothers and grandmothers had to go through to get where we are today.

‘Cinematic Choices’ among other things

Some of the choices... we're not great. This is a shame considering how amazing the story is. for example, Alice Paul is out on a date in one particular scene.  It's a beautiful shot of her and her date standing on a hill when all of a sudden, it's a modern music video complete with a naked girl in a bubble bath. There are many other instances like this that completely take the viewer out of the story. Aside from this, the movie also has some pacing issues (events happening too fast or too slow).  I also wish the filmmakers had put more effort into the music choices. Most of the soundtrack is made up of generic pop songs.
