"Rebels" Is The Sequel To "The Clone Wars"

The second Star Wars series based during the Classic Era was almost just as good as the first, and while it seems very different from the Clone Wars, Rebels is a show as great as the first.

Set about a decade and a half after the Clone War and the fall of the Republic and the Jedi, the Galactic Empire continues to rule with an iron fist. Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruining the lives of its people. But a ragtag group of rebels take a bold stand by themselves to make things right. While The Clone Wars rotated through many different themes and plots, Rebels focuses on the Force and a core of characters and their journey.

Just like in The Clone Wars, the first season is entertaining and does well to set the scene but a little dry. And also just like The Clone Wars, as it progresses it vastly improves and explores the characters and their backgrounds, which has many mature themes in a kid's show such as betrayal and genocide and many evils commonly committed in history during these kinds of occupations. And as the show goes on, the impact becomes bigger as they help to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy, the end refocuses on just their home planet and the individual aspects and lives of the characters.

Many of the old characters from the Classic movies were featured, such as Darth Vader, in awesome new ways, and so were Clone Wars characters such as Rex and Ahsoka. It brought great and satisfying endings to some arcs and is great for Clone Wars fans. One of the great things about the show though is it uses many of the designs and models of Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for the ships, planets, characters, and even the lightsabers that weren't used in the original movies. And it reintroduced many characters and concepts from the old pre-Disney Legends into the canon, most notably, (and my favorite Star Wars villain ever) Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Rebels really are the successor of The Clone Wars and are worth watching for true fans.
